Masan Yongmago pitcher Jang Hyun-seok (18) will wear the uniform of Major League Baseball's Los Angeles Dodgers.
"Jang Hyun-seok has signed a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers for a signing bonus of $900,000 (approximately KRW 11.88 million)," Jang's agent, Rico Sports, announced on the 9th.
Jang Hyun-seok, a right-handed pitcher born in 2004, is considered one of the biggest names in high school. Since last year, he has been throwing fastballs up to 157 kilometers per hour, which has attracted the attention of KBO and Major League Baseball scouts. He was also the only amateur player to be selected for the Hangzhou Asian Games baseball team.
"I am honored to join the Dodgers," said Jang. I will work hard to become a better player as they have chosen me," he said.
The Dodgers are also very familiar to Korean fans. Park Chan-ho, the "Korean Express," and Ryu Hyun-jin, the "Korean Monster" (Toronto Blue Jays) made their big league debuts in Dodger uniforms. With a well-developed Korean-American community, it is considered an easy place for Korean players to adapt.
Meanwhile, Jang Hyun-seok's press conference for joining the Dodgers will be held at the Seoul Dragon City Hotel on the 14th.
