‘고교 특급’ 장현석, LA다저스 입단…계약금 90만 달러

마산 용마고 투수 장현석(18)이 메이저리그 LA 다저스 유니폼을 입는다.


장현석의 에이전트인 리코스포츠는 9일 “장현석이 LA 다저스와 계약금 90만 달러(약 11억 8800만 원)에 계약을 체결했다”라고 밝혔다.


2004년생 오른손 투수인 장현석은 고교 최대어로 꼽힌다. 지난해부터 최고시속 157㎞의 빠른 공을 던져 KBO리그와 메이저리그 스카우트들의 눈에 들었다. 또 아마추어 선수로는 유일하게 항저우 아시안게임 야구 국가대표로 선발되기도 했다.


장현석은 “다저스라는 명문 구단에 입단하게 돼 영광이다. 나를 선택해준 만큼 열심히 노력해 발전하는 선수가 되겠다”고 소감을 밝혔다.


다저스는 국내 팬들에게도 매우 친숙한 구단이다. ‘코리안 특급’ 박찬호, ‘코리안 몬스터’ 류현진(토론토 블루제이스)이 다저스 유니폼을 입고 빅리그에 입성했다. 한인 사회가 잘 발달한 연고지라 국내 선수들이 적응하기에는 수월한 곳으로 꼽힌다.


한편, 장현석의 다저스 입단 기자회견은 14일 서울드래곤시티호텔에서 진행될 예정이다.
