"Golf queen" Park In-bee has been finalized as South Korea's candidate for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes' Commission.
According to the Korea Olympic Committee (KOC), Park In-bee will be the Korean candidate for the IOC Athletes' Commission to be elected at next year's Paris Olympics.
On Oct. 10, Park had an individual interview with Kim Yeon-kyung, Jin Jong-oh, Kim So-young, and Lee Dae-hoon at the first evaluation committee. The evaluation factors included Olympic performance, athletic career, foreign language skills, and the ability to communicate in English and French, the official languages of the IOC.
Park reportedly received a high score due to her relatively strong English language skills, having lived in the United States since middle school. Park's nomination was made at a meeting of the IOC Senate on Thursday and was finalized the same day.
Park is a living legend in women's golf, having won 21 LPGA Tour titles, ranked fourth on the all-time money list ($18.26 million), won four majors, and been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Park won a gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where women's golf returned to the Olympic program after a 116-year absence.
The IOC Athletes' Commission elections will take place during next year's Paris Olympics. The IOC will elect a total of four athletes. Athletes who have competed in the previous Olympic Games or are competing in the Olympic Games in the year of the election are eligible to run. IOC Athletes serve an eight-year term.
