'Bull' Hwang Hee-chan's run has stolen the show for Wolves (Wolverhampton's nickname).

"After an impressive October, Hwang has been named Wolverhampton's Player of the Month," the club announced on its website on Thursday, noting that Hwang scored an attacking point in all three matches in October.

The player of the month is voted for by the fans and Hwang received 45% of the vote, making him the third player of the month this season after Sasha Kalajic and Pedro Neto.

"He scored against Aston Villa (8th, Round 8) and assisted a goal against Bournemouth (21st, Round 9) with a perfect pass," said Wolverhampton, "and then scored again against Newcastle United (29th, Round 10), beating Craig Dawson and Neto to the Player of the Month award."

Hwang has been a revelation for Wolves this season. He has made 10 league appearances since the start of the season and has made the best start of his career. After coming on as a substitute against Brighton in the second round, Hwang rattled the net to score the team's first goal of the season. He followed that up with his second goal of the season against Crystal Palace in the fourth round.

He also scored the opening goal in the fifth-round tie against Liverpool in September, and scored the winning goal against Manchester City to knock out the defending champions. He also tasted goal against Ipswich in the third round of the English Football League Cup (EFL Cup).

Hwang's October was even better. Heading into the game against Villa, Hwang had four league goals to his name, and he scored his fifth goal of the season when he converted a pass from Netou early in the game. He followed that up with an assist against Bournemouth, setting up Kalajic's goal with a precise pass.

Against Newcastle, with the team trailing 1-2, Hwang scored his sixth goal of the season, a PL career-high, with a calm finish based on his signature "fold" to equalize. The goal against Newcastle was also nominated for Goal of the Month in October.

However, he was unable to extend his home goal streak against Tottenham Hotspur in the highly anticipated 'Korean Derby' with Son Heung-min. Although Hwang didn't score, his dynamic play helped the team to a 2-1 victory.

He added an assist in the last game against Sheffield United and now has six goals and two assists in the league. This is his best performance yet, surpassing his five goals and one assist in 2021-22 and four goals and three assists in 2022-23.

"The most important thing is his goals, the second thing is his understanding of the game and the structure and the way we try to play," said new head coach Gary O'Neill of Hwang ahead of the season. "He also shows really good composure and the instinct to get to the right areas to score goals."

Meanwhile, Hwang Hee-chan has been called up to the South Korean national soccer team, led by Jürgen Klinsmann. Klinsmann's men will open the second round of Asian qualifying for the FIFA Confederations Cup North America 2026 on June 16 against Singapore at the Seoul World Cup Stadium. On the 21st, they will play the second leg away to China. Hwang Hee-chan will attempt to score his seventh goal of the season against Fulham FC in the early hours of Aug. 28 (KST) after the A-match period ends.
