Actor Lee Sun-gyun (48), who is suspected of taking drugs, has spoken out.
According to legal circles and police, the Incheon National Police Agency's Drug Crime Investigation Division is investigating eight people, including Lee Seon-gyun and three chaebols, for allegedly violating the Narcotics Control Act. The eight are suspected of injecting drugs several times this year at nightclubs and residences in Gangnam, Seoul.
Lee recently filed a complaint with prosecutors against one of those involved in the drug case for extortion through his lawyer. He reportedly claimed that he was "threatened and robbed of hundreds of millions of won in connection with the drug case."
"We would like to express our deepest apologies for the distress caused by the reports about actor Lee Seon-gyun," said his agency, HODOO & U Entertainment, on the 20th. "We are currently checking the exact facts of the allegations against actor Lee Seon-gyun, and we intend to be sincere in any investigations by law enforcement agencies that may be conducted in the future," it added.
"In addition, actor Lee Seon-gyun has received continuous blackmail and threats from Mr. A, a person related to the case, and has filed a complaint with the investigative agency," the statement continued, "and we will tell you about future developments in this regard through our legal representatives."
"We will also take strong action if false facts are spread through malicious or false posts. Once again, we sincerely apologize for causing concern," he said.
Meanwhile, Lee Sun-gyun, who made his debut in 1999, has made a name for himself with roles in the dramas "Pasta," "My Uncle," and the films "Hwacha" and "All the Way to the End. In 2019, he made a name for himself by starring in Bong Joon-ho's "Parasite," which won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
