"Why is Neymar only going to Korea?" Furious Japanese

Neymar, who missed all three matches of Paris Saint-Germain's (PSG) tour of Japan, scored a multi-goal game in South Korea, prompting complaints from Japanese media and netizens.

PSG defeated Jeonbuk 3-0 in the third leg of the Coupang Playoff Series at the Asiad Stadium in Busan on March 3. Neymar, who played the full game, scored a multi-goal performance.

Lee Kang-in, who missed the previous match due to injury, also made a substitute appearance. South Korean fans were delighted to see both players on the same pitch.

However, the reaction in Japan was quite different. PSG played three matches in Japan before the trip, against Al-Nasr (Saudi Arabia), Cerezo Osaka (Japan), and Inter Milan (Italy), but Neymar watched from the bench. This was because he was still recovering from the aftermath of his preseason injury.

Japanese outlet Football Channel reported on Thursday that "Neymar was the star of the show in the absence of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe. However, Neymar did not play in Japan, citing an ankle injury." Japan's Soccer Digest also wrote, "Neymar didn't play in Japan, but he started in South Korea and scored a goal. It's a shame," he sarcastically commented.

Netizens had similar reactions. They said they understood that he was injured, but it was unfair for him to play only in Korea.

Meanwhile, in Japan, the official PSG social media account posted a photo of Neymar celebrating his goal with the caption "Full time". Neymar also posted a greeting on his social media, saying, "Korea, it was the best."

▲일본 기상청에 표기된 독도. 사진제공=서경덕 교수 The Japan Meteorological Agency has sparked controversy for labeling Dokdo as Japanese territory on a weather map of Typhoon No. 7. On the 16th, Seo Kyung-duk, a professor at Sungshin Women's University, sent a protest email to the Japan Meteorological Agency through social networking services (SNS), demanding that the agency correct its mistake of labeling Dokdo as Japanese land. "The Japan Meteorological Agency has always labeled Dokdo as '竹島' (Takeshima), and we have been protesting against this for three years. The biggest problem is that many Japanese netizens visit the Japan Meteorological Agency's website during typhoon and tsunami warnings, which can create a false perception of Dokdo," he said. "In this protest email, we said, 'This is a clear territorial provocation. Dokdo is an undisputed territory of the Republic of Korea under historical, geographical, and international law." Professor Seo said that not o...
