Girl group BLACKPINK has surpassed 90 million subscribers on its official YouTube channel.
According to YG Entertainment (YG), the number of subscribers to BLACKPINK's YouTube channel exceeded 90 million at 5:36 a.m. on the 17th. This is a first for any artist in the world.
It's been about seven years and one month since BLACKPINK's channel opened on June 28, 2016.
In particular, from October last year, when they held a concert in Seoul, to June this year, they attracted about 7 million subscribers, the highest increase among K-pop artists in that period.
YG attributed the increase to the group's successful world tour, as well as member Jisoo's first solo activity.
In July 2020, BLACKPINK became the first non-English-speaking artist to crack the top five in global YouTube subscribers, overtaking pop stars such as Ariana Grande, Eminem, Ed Sheeran, Marshmello, and Justin Bieber.
BLACKPINK's official YouTube channel has accumulated more than 32.2 billion views. Among them, the music video for "DDU-DU DDU-DU" is on track to reach 2.1 billion views, the first by a K-pop group.
