On the 15th (local time), CJ ENM's music program 'M-Countdown' was held at the Parc des Princes Arena in Paris, France. NCT Dream, SHINee's Taemin, MONSTA X's Shunu and Hyungwon, ATEEZ, and Psy performed at the event, which was attended by about 22,000 people.
CJ ENM had previously announced that "professional cameras are prohibited from being brought into the Paris La Defense Arena". Therefore, cameras and other belongings were checked at the venue.
However, there were testimonies from the field that the field personnel strictly cracked down on Asians, even though Europeans were also carrying cameras and filming the stage with cameras. According to the testimonies, the field agents did not hesitate to confiscate the cameras of the Asians or search their bags.
In response to the controversy, CJ ENM said, "We are checking the facts to see if there was any excessive force in the process of monitoring prohibited items."
Meanwhile, this is not the first time a K-pop concert has been accused of racism. At BTS's LA concert in late 2021, Korean fans were assaulted by local fans for taking pictures of the singer with their cameras.
