'Shot-stopper' Lee Kang-in, 22, will wear the colors of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

"We are delighted to announce the signing of Lee Kang-in, who has signed a contract until 2028," the club said on its website on Monday (Aug. 9). "The 22-year-old attacking midfielder becomes the first South Korean player to join PSG."

Lee's contract runs for five years and is reportedly worth €22 million ($31.3 billion) according to local media reports. It was also reported that Lee will receive 20 percent of the transfer fee (approximately 6.3 billion won) according to the contract he signed when he joined his former club Mallorca (Spain).

Lee's transfer fee is the second highest for a South Korean player after Son Heung-min's €30 million (KRW 42.7 billion). Lee's transfer is likely to be the most profitable in Mallorca's history.

Lee will wear the number 19 on his back, just like he did at Mallorca.

PSG posted a number of posts on its website and official social media on the same day, including a one-on-one interview with Lee Kang-in about his upbringing. In the interview, Lee said, "I've known PSG since I was a kid. It's one of the best teams in the world," he said, adding, "The French league is a very competitive league with many talented players."

"I can't wait to start my new adventure and I'm really looking forward to meeting the supporters and entertaining them on the pitch."

"I'm a player with a lot of desire and thirst to win," he said, "I'm a midfielder who can play on both wings and I'm good on the ball. I will help the team win every game and win as many titles as possible."

PSG is a prestigious French club. After being acquired by Qatar Sports Investments in 2011, the club won nine Ligue 1 titles before last season. The team boasts superstars like Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. Lionel Messi also played for PSG until last season.

Local media have identified Lee as a key attacker to fill Messi's shoes. "He is a replacement for Messi," said Clutchpoint, a sports publication, "PSG thinks he can fill the gap and strengthen their attack." FootMercato also named Lee as a possible replacement for Messi in their "best 11" for PSG.

"You can't compare the talents of Lee and Messi, but their playing styles are similar," said Brazilian Trivela. "They are both left-footed and like to play and finish from the right. Lee's play is reminiscent of Messi's."

▲일본 기상청에 표기된 독도. 사진제공=서경덕 교수 The Japan Meteorological Agency has sparked controversy for labeling Dokdo as Japanese territory on a weather map of Typhoon No. 7. On the 16th, Seo Kyung-duk, a professor at Sungshin Women's University, sent a protest email to the Japan Meteorological Agency through social networking services (SNS), demanding that the agency correct its mistake of labeling Dokdo as Japanese land. "The Japan Meteorological Agency has always labeled Dokdo as '竹島' (Takeshima), and we have been protesting against this for three years. The biggest problem is that many Japanese netizens visit the Japan Meteorological Agency's website during typhoon and tsunami warnings, which can create a false perception of Dokdo," he said. "In this protest email, we said, 'This is a clear territorial provocation. Dokdo is an undisputed territory of the Republic of Korea under historical, geographical, and international law." Professor Seo said that not o...
